The Empire National Bank Smith Point Bridge 5K Run will take place on Saturday, September 11, 2010. The magnificent backdrop of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and white sand beaches, make this race a landmark event on the Long Island racing calendar. For the first time, a Family Fun Walk featuring Clifford the Big Red Dog will be a part of the event.
This year, we expect to attract over 300 runners to support the Community Library’s Family Literacy Project, Inc and the William Floyd High School Scholarship Fund.
The Community Family Literacy Project, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote family literacy in the area served by the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library. It was created exclusively to provide both out-reach and in-house programs and services that encourage and support literacy for all ages.
The William Floyd High School Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to students seeking to continue their education at colleges and universities, helping fulfill their hopes and dreams.
The Empire National Bank Smith Point Bridge 5k Run is sanctioned by USATF-USA Track and Field Long Island.
The race features the new and advanced Winning Time Chip System, provided by Start2Finish. This system uses the most advanced technology in the business. Each participant wears a small chip on their ankle attached by a Velcro strap. When the participant crosses the finish line the timing mats send out a magnetic field which charges the chip and extracts the data from it.
